It requires the ability to be vulnerable.

Because we can only truly forgive if we recognize what causes the suffering.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Everyone likes the idea of forgiveness until they encounter something that they cannot forgive to themselves. How can we forgive ourselves when we bring suffering to others?

We can. It only needs a response from a more aware part of us, a more open part of our heart and minds 💛

Mindfulness is not about accessing bliss. It's not

Mindfulness is not about accessing bliss. It's not about relaxation either.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's about feeling your feelings.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's about choosing not to escape from the unpleasant ones and only seek the pleasant and joyful ones.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
That's life: good and bad. If we avoid the bad, we risk spending our lives running, never really arriving anywhere.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Being with the unpleasant turns out to be healing. We discover we can deal with it, we can be with it, and the result is usually a healthier relationship with our thoughts and emotions, no matter what comes our way.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It all starts with the awareness to pay attention to your thoughts.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
You can start observing your thoughts with this simple exercise in your everyday life:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✨ Notice when you are caught in thoughts and come back to your senses, using your breath.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Sometimes our thoughts are relentless voices in our heads.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
By observing them, we realize they are just thoughts...
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
We don't have to believe in them.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

How can we use mindfulness to learn to overcome self-judgment?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Most of us are familiar with thoughts that tell us we are not good enough.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤦These thoughts might be there at work: "Your work is not good", "You'll never be as good, why do you bother?", "No one notices you", "You are not doing enough".
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🙅This inner critic might meet you when you look at the mirror: "You're fat." "Horrible hair, there's no hope". "You look bad and sloppy".
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤷It's even there to critique your closest relationships. "He doesn't really love you. No one could care about you." "You're not a good mother", "Just don't be vulnerable."
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There's always this sense of never being enough. Of falling short at work, as a partner, and worse sometimes as a parent. This leads to feeling insecure with others. and we can feel guilty, resentful, or controlling.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Being kind to ourselves is one of the central components of mindfulness—but that doesn't mean it's always easy.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If we can calm our inner critic and cultivate self-acceptance, we can rewire our brain for deeper connections.

I’m super excited to announce some new 4-week micro courses running within my friendly 😀 multifaith 🙏🏽 “Conscious Living” Zoom study and meditation group 🧘‍♂️

The first is an Introduction to Buddhism course. Sundays 7,30pm UK 🇬🇧 time from October 4th.

In this course I’ll be presenting key Buddhist teachings. With an opportunity for good discussion with other community members to understand how the teachings can be applied to make your everyday life more peaceful, happy and harmonious 😊

For most of us, self judgment and that sense of unworthiness can run so deep that prevents us from feeling connected with others.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Learning how to love yourself right and treat yourself well can impact the way you live your life and the things you’re able to accomplish.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here are 9 ways to start your journey to self-acceptance:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔Practice self-care. Take time to yourself.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔Connect with yourself: meditate
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔Accept imperfection.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
✔Be kind to yourself (how’s your inner critic? Loud?)

✔Do things that feed your soul.

✔ Practice mindfullness. Be here and now.
